ROCKBEAR, a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of BUDLEIGH, county of DEVON, 5 miles (W.) from Ottery St. Mary, containing, with part of the tything of Rawleigh, 443 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £9, and in the patronage of the Bishop of Exeter, The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Lawrence Colesworthy, in 1702, bequeathed £4 per annum for teaching poor children.
