ROXWELL, a parish in the hundred of CHELMSFORD,
county of ESSEX, 4 miles (W. N. W.) from
Chelmsford, containing 817 inhabitants. The living
is a donative, annexed to the perpetual curacy of Writtle,
in the jurisdiction of the peculiar court of Writtle with
Roxwell. John Blencowe, in 1774, founded a school
for teaching poor children of Roxwell and Writtle.
