SACOMB, a parish in the hundred of BROADWATER, county of HERTFORD, 4 miles (N. by W.) from Ware, containing 341 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Huntingdon, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £10. 3. 4. Samuel Smyth, Esq. was patron in 1807. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is situated upon an eminence on tlie north side of the Ware and Wotton road; it has a tower on the south side of the nave, formerly embattled; and, in. the chancel, two stone stalls, and a piscina under trefoil arches, with memorials of the Rolt family. There is a bequest of £5 per annum by the Rev. John Meriton, late rector, for apprenticing one poor child.
