SADBERGE, a chapelry in that part of the parish of HAUGHTON-le-SKERNE which is in the south-western division of STOCKTON ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 4 miles (E. N. E.) from Darlington, containing 315 inhabitants. The chapel is dedicated to St. Andrew; around the base of the hill upon which it stands are traces of an ancient intrenchment. This was formerly a place of great importance, and the capital of a district, or county, of the same name, having had its gaol, sheriff, coroner, and other civil officers. A school is supported by small annual subscriptions. The Stockton and Darlington railway passes in the vicinity.
