SAMLESBURY, a chapelry in the parish and lower division of th hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 4 miles (E. by N.) from Preston, containing 1979 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £600 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £700 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Blackburn. The chapel is dedicated to St. Leonard. Six poor children are educated for £ 8 a year by a master, who occupies the schoolhouse rent-free.
