SCOTTER, a parish in the wapentake of CORRINGHAM, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 9 miles (N. B. by N.) from Gainsborough, containing 938 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Stow, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £22. 4. 2., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Peterborough. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The river Eau runs through the parish, and falls into the Trent, which forms its north-west boundary. A charter for a market on Thursday, and a fair on July 10th, was granted by Richard I., but the former has been discontinued. There is a fair for horses and cattle on July 6th, called Scotter shew.
