SHANGTON, a parish in the hundred of GARTREE,
county of LEICESTER, 6 miles (N. by W.) from Market-
Harborough, containing 44 inhabitants. The living is
a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese
of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £10 13. 4., and
in the patronage of Sir J. Isham, Bart. The church is
dedicated to St. Nicholas; about three quarters of a
mile from it is " Gartre Bush," the spot where the hundred
court was formerly held.
