SHELTON, a parish in the hundred of DEPWADE, county of NORFOLK, 2 miles (S. E. by S.) from St. Mary Stratton, containing 236 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with that of Hardwich annexed, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the Icing's books at £ 8, and in the patronage of the King, by reason of lunacy. The church dedicated to St. Mary, was built by Sir Ralph Shelton, who also erected the manor-house, now in ruins; it was a spacious castellated structure, with a chapel attached, encompassed by an embattled wall and a moat.
