SHIPDHAM, a parish in the hundred of MITFORD, county of NORFOLK, 4 miles (S. W. by S.) from East Dereham, containing 1642 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £27- 7- 6., and in the patronage of the Rev. B. Barker. The church) dedicated to All Saints, is a stately pile, with a strong Western tower embattled and crowned with a handsome turret. Thomas Bullock, in 1735, bequeathed land, producing upwards of £ 45, for teaching the poor childern of the parish. There was anciently a hermitage within the parish, with a chapel dedicated to St. Thomas a Becket, for the repair of which the Bishop of Ely, in 1487, granted forty days' indulgence to all who might contribute.
