SHOEBURY (SOUTH), a parish in the hundred of ROCHFORD, county of ESSEX, 4 miles (E.) from South End, containing 153 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £14. 13. 4. R. Bristow, Esq. was patron in 1813. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. The parish is bounded on the south by the Thames, and lies opposite to the Nore. On Shoebury Ness is a signal station. A school is supported by small annual subscriptions.
