SHOTWICK-PARK, a liberty (extra-parochial), in the higher division of the hundred of WIRRALL, county palatine of CHESTER, 4 miles (N. W.) from Chester, containing 23 inhabitants. This was the site of a castle formerly belonging to the crown. Henry II. is said to have lodged here on his journey to and from Ireland; and Edward I. occupied it in 1278. The castle was standing in Leland's time, and there were some remains in 1622, since which period every vestige has been gradually removed.
