SLEDDALE (LONG), a chapelry in that part of the parish of KENDAL which is in KENDAL ward, county of WESTMORLAND, 8 miles (N. by W.) from Kendal, containing 185 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Richmond, and diocese of Chester, endowed with £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Land-owners. The chapel was rebuilt in 1712. A school, termed the Chapel school, is supported by the Hon. F. G. Howard, lord of the manor, who allows £15 a year to the master. Here are quarries bf a fine blue slate, situated amid mountain scenery of the most romantic and picturesque character.
