SOBERTON, a parish in the hundred of MEONSTOKE,
Portsdown division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON,
3 miles (E. by S.) from Bishop's Waltham,
containing 882 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual
curacy, annexed to the rectory of Meon-Stoke, in the
peculiar jurisdiction of the Incumbent of that parish.
The church is principally in the early style of English
architecture. Soberton is within the jurisdiction of
the Cheyney Court held at Winchester every Thursday,
for the recovery of debts to any amount.
