SOMERTON (WEST), a parish in the western
division of the hundred of FLEGG, county of NORFOLK,
6 miles (N. W. by N.) from Caistor, containing 197
inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the
archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, endowed with
£400 private benefaction, £1000 royal bounty, and
£600 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of
Thomas Groves, Esq. The church, dedicated to St.
Mary, is thatched, and has a tower round at the base,
and octangular above.
