SOPLEY, a parish in the hundred of CHRISTCHURCH,
New Forest (West) division of the county
of SOUTHAMPTON, 2 miles (N.) from Christ-church,
containing 978 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage,
inthe archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated
in the king's books at £12. 16. lOf., and in the patronage
of - Willis, Esq. The church, dedicated to
St. Michael, and the village, are situated on the left
bank of the river Avon. There is a place of worship
for Baptists.
