SOULDERN, a parish in the hundred of PLOUGHLEY, county of OXFORD, 4 miles (E. by S.) from Deddington, containing 491 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the Icing's books at £8. 14. 2., and in the, patronage of the Master and Fellows of St. John's College, Cambridge. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The Oxford and Birmingham canal passes through the parish, and the river Cherwell forms the western boundary. A National school is supported partly by contributions, and partly by a sum of money left by Miss Westcarr for that purpose.
