SOUTH-ACRE, a parish in the southern division of the hundred of GREENHOE, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (N. by W.) from Swaffham, containing 100 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £ 10.18. 1. B. Fountain, Esq. was patron in 1802. The church is dedicated to St. George. At Racheness, in this parish, there was, in the time of Henry II., an hospital for lepers, subordinate to the priory of Castle-Acre.
