SOUTHCHURCH, a parish in the hundred of
ROCHFORD, county of ESSEX, 1 mile (N. N. E.) from
South-End, containing 353 inhabitants. The living is
a rectory, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage
of the Archbishop of Canterbury, rated in the king's
books at £27. 0. 10. The parish is bounded on the
south by the Thames; where are considerable oyster
beds.
