STAINLEY (SOUTH), a parish in the lower division of the wapentake of CLARO, West riding of the county of YORK, 2 miles (N. E. by N.) from Ripley, containing, with the township of Clayton, 232 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the court of the honour of Knaresborough, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £800 royal bounty, and £300 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of Homer Reynard, Esq., and the heirs of the late Mrs. Gibson.
