STAINTON, a township in the parish of DACRE,
LEATH ward, county of CUMBERLAND, 2 miles (S. W.
by W.) from Penrith. The population is returned with
the parish. Eight children of this township are instructed
for the dividends arising from £100 three per
cents., the gift of Mark Scott, in 1758.
