STANFORD-upon-SOAR, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of RUSHCLIFFE, county of NOTTINGHAM, 2 miles (N. by E.) from Loughborough, containing 160 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £9. 7. 6., and in the patronage of the Rev. S. F. Dashwood. The church is de.- dicated to St. John the Baptist. The river Trent enters the county here, and runs through the parish. Roman coins have been discovered.
