STANTON, a township in the parish of LONGHORSLEY, western division of MORPETH ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 6 miles (N. W. by W.) from Morpeth, containing 168 inhabitants. Here are a colliery, several quarries of limestone, and kilns for burning lime. The ancient manor-house has been converted into a poor-house; a chapel which stood a little to the northward of it has quite disappeared. From the foundations in the neighbourhood, Stanton seems to have been once a considerable place.
