STOBOROUGH, a liberty in the parish of HOLY-TRINITY, borough of WAREHAM, Blandford (South) division of the county of DORSET, 1 mile (S.) from Wareham, containing 280 inhabitants. It was formerly governed by a mayor, chosen annually at Michaelmas; but the inhabitants declining to qualify themselves, when the Schism act came into operation, in 1714, the office no longer exists, but a bailiff is appointed in the same manner as the mayor was, viz., by a jury at the court held by the lord of the manor.
