STOGUMBER, a parish in the hundred of WILLITON-and-FREEMANNERS, county of SOMERSET, 7 miles (N, by E.) from Wiveliscombe, containing 1281 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £ 11. 18. 7., and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Wells. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for Baptists. A market was formerly held on Saturday, and fairs are still held on May 6th and Aug. 1st. Roman coins have been discovered here.
