STOKE-LACY, a parish in the hundred of BROXASH, county of HEREFORD, 4 miles (S. W. by S.) from Bromyard, containing 358 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £ 8, and in the patronage of the Rev. T. Apperley. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. A court leet is held once in seven years. Limestone abounds in the neighbourhood. The late Archdeacon of Hereford bequeathed property for the erection and endowment of a free school for children of both sexes, which gift has recently been augmented by Mr. Brown, of Evington, with £20 per annum, and £50 towards the building of the schoolhouse.
