STONE, a parish in the hundred of OXNEY, lathe of SHEPWAY, county of KENT, 6 miles (S. E.) fromTenterden, containing 425 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in. the archdeaconry and diocese of- Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £ 8. 14. 4., and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a spacious and handsome structure. The Grand Military canal passes through the parish. A fair is held here on Holy-Thursday. A free school is supported by voluntary contributions.
