STREATLEY, a parish in the hundred of MORETON, county of BERKS, 5 miles (S. by W.) from Wallingford, containing 590 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £ 10. 7- &> and in the patronage of the Bishop of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Streatley is supposed to have taken its name from its situation on the ancient Iknield-street, or Ickleton Long, as it is here called, which crosses the Thames from this place to Goring in Oxfordshire. Eight boys and girls are taught to read and write for an annuity of £2. 5., the bequest of Mr. Richard Tull. Here was formerly a convent of the Dominican order, part of which was remaining a few years since.
