STRETFORD, a chapelry in the parish of MANCHESTER, hundred of SALFORD, county palatine of LANCASTER, 4 miles (S.W.) from Manchester, containing 2173 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £230 private benefaction, £600 royal bounty, and £ 800 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Wardens and Fellows of the Collegiate Church of Manchester. The chapel has lately received an addition of one hundred and seventy-six sittings, of which ninetyfive are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £95 towards defraying the expense.
