STRICKLAND (GREAT), a township in the parish of MORLAND, WEST ward, county of WESTMORLAND, 6 miles (S. E. by S.) from Penrith, containing 246 inhabitants. There is a meeting-house belonging to the Society of Friends, with a burial-ground attached. A school, for which the building was erected in 1790, is endowed with land purchased with £ 10 left, in 1757, by Wm. Fletcher, and £20 by Wm. Stephenson, in 1797.
