SULKAMPSTEAD-ABBOTTS, a parish in the hundred of READING, county of BERKS, 7 miles (S. W. by W.) from Reading, containing, with the tything of Graisley, 364 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, to which, in 17B2, that of Sulhampstead-Bannister was annexed, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £ 10. 6. 0., and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of Queen's College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew. The river Keunet runs through the parish. There is a Sunday school for the children of both parishes, superintended by a benevolent lady, who has endowed it with £573. 5. 3. three per cent, consols., also a school-room and house for the master and mistress.
