SUNNINGWELL, a parish in the hundred of HORMER, county of BERKS, 2 miles (N.) from Abingdon, containing, with part of the chapelry of Kennington, 277 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at & 12. 14. 7., and in the patronage of Sir G. Bowyer, Bart. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, is an ancient structure of a singular form, and contains a monument to the memory of Bishop Jewell. The village is pleasantly situated on the banks of the Thames, across which there is a wooden bridge.
