SWETTENHAM, a parish in the hundred of NORTHWICH, county palatine of CHESTER, comprising the townships of Kermincham and Swettenham, and containing 435 inhabitants, of which number, 259 are in the township of Swettenham, 5 miles (N. W.) from Congleton. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, rated in the king's books at £5. 1. 3., and in the patronage of the Rev. J. D'Arcey. The church is a brick structure, with a tower, forming a conspicuous object in the romantic scenery on the banks of the Dane.
