TARRING (WEST), a parish in the hundred of TARRING, rape of BRAMBER, county of SUSSEX, 1 mile (N. W.) from Worthing, containing 650 inhabitants. The living consists of a sinecure rectory, rated in the king's books at £22. 13. 4., and a vicarage consolidated with the rectory of Patching, rated at £8. 13. 4., in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The church, dedicated tq St. Andrew, is principally in the early style of English architecture.
