TASBURGH, a parish in the hundred of DEPWADE, county of NORFOLK, 2 miles (N.) from St. Mary Stratton, containing 469 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with Rainthorpe, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £ 8, and in the patronage of Sir Thomas Beevor, Bart. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, stands on a lofty eminence, within the area of a square intrenchment containing twenty-four acres, which Gale considers the Roman station Ad Tuam; it was an advantageous position for the defence of the river Tesse, running hence to Caistor, and here forming a convenient harbour. Coins, fibulse, and other relics of antiquity, have been found.
