TEINGTON (KING'S), a parish in the hundred of TEINGBRIDGE, county of DEVON, 2 miles (N. E. by N.) from Newton-Bushell, containing 1131 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, with the perpetual curacy of Highweek annexed, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £28. 13. 9-> and in the patronage of the Prebendary of King's Teington in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. There is a place of worship for Independents. The river Teign is navigable here, in the neighbourhood of which are large beds of potters' clay of an excellent quality, and a chalybeate spring. Theophilus Gale, a learned nonconformist divine, was born here, in 1628; he died in 1687.
