TELSCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of HOLMSTROW, rape of LEWES, county of SUSSEX, 3 miles (N. W. by W.) from Newhaven, containing 113 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £ 13. 13. 4., and in the patronage of John Philpot, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Lawrence, is a small structure, principally in the Norman style. The Rev. Josiah Povey, in 1727, bequeathed land, &c., yielding about six guineas a year, for teaching poor children. Henry Smith, Esq. bequeathed an estate in this parish, called Court Farm, directing the rents to be applied for the rejief of the poor of seven parishes in the north of England.
