TERRINGTON (ST-CLEMENT'S), a parish in the Marshland division of the hundred of FREEBRIDGE, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (W. by N.) from Lynn- Regis, containing 1408 inhabitants. The living is a vi- carage, with:that of Terrington St. John's, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated jointly in the king's books;at £23. 6. 8., and in the patronage of the Crown; the rectory is annexed to the Margaret Profes- sqrship in the University of Cambridge. The church is a handsome cruciform structure, in the later style of English architecture, having on the battlements of the south aisle many shields with different armorial bear- ings. Here was also a chapel,dedicatedto St. James. There is a place of worship forWesleyan Methodists. Though not noticed in Domesday-book, Terrington was an extensive place, and had considerable saltworks in the time of the, Saxons, as appears from a grant of Godric, brother to Ednoth, abbot of Ramsey, about 970.
