THOMPSON, a parish in the hundred of WAYLAND, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (S. S. E.) from Watton, containing 427 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, endowed with £800 royal bounty. Mrs. M. S. Hethersett was patroness in 1816, The church is dedicated to St. Martin. Sir Thomas de Shardelow, Knt., and his brother, about 1349, founded in it, in honour of the Blessed Virgin and All Saints, a chantry, or college, for a master and five chaplains, whose revenue, at the dissolution, was valued at £52. 15. 7.
