THORNFORD, a parish in the hundred of SHERBORNE,
Sherborne division of the county of DORSET,
3 miles (S. W.) from Sherborne, containing 329 inhabitants.
The living is a discharged rectory, in the peculiar
jurisdiction of the Dean of Salisbury, rated in the
king's books at £6.17.3., and in the patronage of Mrs.
Sampson. The church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene,
was anciently a chapel dependent on Sherborne abbey.
