THORNTON, a parish in the hundred of SPARKENHOE,
county of LEICESTER, 6 miles (N.E.) from Market-
Bosworth, containing, with the chapelries of Bagworth
and Stanton under Bardon, the township of Horsepool,
and the extra-parochial liberty of Bagworth Park, 1096
inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the
archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated
in the king's books at £6. 10. 2., and in the patronage
of Lord Viscount Maynard. The church is dedicated to
St. Peter.
