THORPE-by-IXWORTH, a parish in the hundred of BLACKBOURN, county of SUFFOLK, a mile (W. by N.) from Ixworth, containing 148 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, and in the patronage of Sir C. M. Lamb, Bart. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A priory, in honour of the Virgin Mary, was founded for Black canons, by Gilbert le Blund, a follower of the Conqueror, the revenue of which, at the dissolution, was estimated at £ 280. 9. 5.; the site is encompassed by a moat.
