THURGOLAND, a township in the parish of
SILKSTONE, wapentake of STAINCROSS, West riding of
the county of YORK, 3 miles (B. S. E.) from Penistone,
containing 819 inhabitants, many of whom are
employed in the manufacture of woollen cloth and wire.
There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
