THURLBY, a parish in the wapentake of NESS, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 5 miles (N. N. W.) from Market-Deeping, containing, with the hamlets of Northorpe and Obthorpe, 622 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £10. 9. 4., endowed with £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of Eton College. The church, dedicated to St. Firmin, is an ancient but handsome structure. The parish is bounded on one side by the river Glen; and the ancient Roman canal, Carr Dyke, passes close by the church, being, plainly discernible.
