THURROCK (WEST), a parish in the hundred of GRAFFORD, county of ESSEX, 1 mile (W.) from Grays- Thurrock, containing, with the township of Purfleet, 839 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the jurisdiction of the Commissary of Essex and Herts, concurrently with the Consistorial Court of the Bishop of London, rated in the king's books at A15. 13. 4., and in the patronage of S.Wbitbread, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Clement. The parish is bounded on the south by the Thames, where there is a landingplace, opposite to Greenhithe.
