TISTED (EAST), a parish in the hundred of SELBORNE, Alton (North) division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 4 miles (S. by W.) from Alton, containing, with the tything of Rotherfield, 278 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at£l6, and in the patronage of James Scott, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. James. The Rev. Philip Valois, in. 1760, bequeathed £300 in support of a school; and the Rev. John Williams, in 1822, gave £400 three per cents for a like purpose; the united income is about £24, for which fourteen children are instructed.
