TOFT (WEST), a parish in the hundred of GRIMSHOE, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (N.E.) from. Brandon- Ferry, containing 128 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £8. 6. John Moseley, Esq. was patron in 1815. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient building of flint and stone, with a large square tower, erected early in the reign of Edward IV., and coped and em- battled with freestone; the nave and chancel are separated by a screen, and in the latter is a piscina. In 1720, an oaken coffin was discovered here, containing, among other relics, human bones, the representation of a face cut in jet,a blue cypher, and several beads.
