TOLPUDDLE, a parish in the hundred of PIDDLETOWN, Dorchester division of the county of DORSET, 7 miles (E.N.E.) from Dorchester, containing 351 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £15. 7. 3., and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is a small ancient fabric, built of rubble. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The parish is bounded on the south by the small river Piddle.
