TORTINGTON, a parish in the hundred of AVISFORD,
rape of ARUNDEL, county of SUSSEX, 2 miles
(S. W.) from Arundel, containing 88 inhabitants. The
living is a vicarage not in charge, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Chichester. Francis Lovell, Esq. was patron
in 1817. The church is principally in the early
style of English architecture. The parish is bounded
on. the east by the river Arun. A priory of Augustine
canons, in honour of St. Mary Magdalene, was founded
by the Lady Hadwisa Corbet, before the reign of John,
which, at the dissolution, possessed a revenue of
