TRIMLEY (ST-MARTIN), a parish in the hundred of COLNEIS, county of SUFFOLK, 8 miles (S. E. by E.) from Ipswich, containing 436 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £12. 0. 5., and in the patronage of the Earl' of Rochford. The navigable river Orwell bounds the parish on the south. Thomas Cavendish, celebrated as the first English circumnavigator, was born here.
