TROTTON, a parish partly in the hundred of EASEBOURNE, but chiefly in that of DUMPFORD, rape of CHICHESTER, county of SUSSEX, 3 miles (W. by N.) from Midhurst, containing, with the chapelry of Milland, 390 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chichester, rated in the king's books at £9. S. Twyford, Esq. was patron in 1813. The church, dedicated to St. George, is principally in the decorated style of architecture. Thomas Otway, the poet, was born here, in 1651; he died in 1685.
